Attachment
Adhered, mechanically attached or ballasted
Fully adhered gives the cleanest appearance and the best wind performance — bonding adhesive over the coverboard, no flutter, no fastener penetrations through the membrane.
Mechanically attached reinforced sheets install faster and cost less on large open buildings, with fastener density increased at perimeters and corners per ASCE 7.
Ballasted loose-laid systems under river rock remain economical on structurally capable decks, though we usually convert them at replacement — ballast hides leaks and complicates every future repair.
Black vs white EPDM
Black absorbs heat, which helps melt ice and dries the roof quickly. White EPDM is available when reflectivity matters more than winter performance.
