Every major brand makes a good architectural shingle. The differences that matter in Connecticut are impact resistance, wind rating and how the roof is detailed.
Featured
TAMKO Titan XT
Our featured shingle. Titan XT uses a wider, heavier construction and a reinforced nailing zone, and it carries a Class 4 impact rating — the top tier — which is what you want on a roof that takes hail and falling branches.
It's rated for high wind when installed with the specified nailing pattern and starter. Some insurers offer a premium credit for Class 4 shingles; worth asking your agent, though we can't promise your carrier does.

GAF Timberline
The most widely installed architectural shingle in North America. Timberline HDZ has a very forgiving nailing zone, a deep color range, and — when the full system of starter, underlayment, ventilation and ridge cap is installed to manufacturer spec — strong extended warranty options.
Standard Timberline is Class 3 impact; step up to Timberline AS II if Class 4 matters to you.

CertainTeed
Landmark is a dimensional shingle with a reputation for color depth and consistency, which shows on large, visible roof planes. Their Northgate line adds a rubberized SBS-modified asphalt that stays flexible in cold weather — a real advantage in a Connecticut January.

Owens Corning
Duration shingles use a fabric strip through the nailing zone that grips fasteners tightly, plus a sealant that bonds quickly in cool weather. Good choice for late-fall installs, and the color palette suits traditional New England homes.
How to choose
What actually drives the decision
Impact resistance first if you've had hail or overhanging trees. Wind rating next if you're on an exposed site near the shore. After that it's color, warranty structure and budget — and honestly, installation quality outweighs brand. A top shingle nailed high or flashed poorly still leaks.
